a moose in a bear suit walks into a bar…

The baby shower was a delightful success!  The rain held off.  The sun was shining.  Birds were chirping.  It was literally the perfect day (except for the fact that I was sweating uncontrollably… but I’m not complaining!)  I will post about the shower when I get more photos 🙂

Tonight, we took a tour of the Holy Cross Hospital Labor and Delivery Department.  Our tour was really crowded, about 6-10 expectant couples, waddling in and out of overstuffed elevators, which was terrifying.  Due to a schedule conflict, the regular tour guide was unavailable, leaving us with a nurse who had never done a tour before and had obviously never had to speak above a whisper.  But she was fine.  The tour was informative.  My big question of the night: “Do these rooms get Wi-Fi?”  The dads appreciated that one.  And yes, in case you were wondering, they do.  The hospital rooms smell of pure rubbing alcohol.  I’m hoping for a quick, natural birth so I don’t have to stay there more than 24 hours.  But it made it seem more real.  Kevin will be here soon, next month!  It blows my mind.  Although, it still won’t seem real until I see him.

Thanks to the overwhelming love and generosity of our friends and family near and far, Kevin has more stuff than we know what to do with!  (Again, not complaining!)  I just wish he had his own room so I could really start organizing.  (We’re still on a waiting list for a two-bedroom with a den, but when I called today, they said it could be a year-long wait.  Ughh.  But we’re still looking!)  This is what his crib currently looks like…

And the changing table area…

Which Benny thinks is his new bed…

I have acquired a couple of SUPER CUTE things for Kevin the past few days!  Miss Emily and I took a trip to Value Village, a HUGE thrift store in Hyattsville, MD.  It’s really awesome when it’s not too crowded, but you really have to dig.  Emily found the CUTEST bear outfit for Kevin.  It’s size 0-3 months and will be PERFECT for our Christmas trip to Maine!  AND it was only $5.99!  Score!  Here is my attempt at a photo shoot that will do this outfit justice…

Notice, if you will, the ears AND the mittens that are attached!  I’m dying!  But to get a better view of the ears, I needed a model…

Not a great view of the bear suit, but Benny is priceless in this shot.  Clearly, not amused.

I’ve made it a point to not get anything else on Freecycle for a while, since we have enough baby stuff to last at least a year (and since Matt threatened to kick me out if I brought in any more stuff… jk!  But really, he said “enough!”)  BUT today, I couldn’t resist.  Someone was offering a ROCKING MOOSE!  That’s right.  Like a rocking horse, but a MOOSE.  It’s from IKEA, retail value $39.99, great shape.  So, why not?  Kevin NEEDS a rocking moose.  And I got it 🙂

Isn’t this so worth it?  I’m dying for this moose.  It’s the perfect addition to any little boy’s room (if he had his own room… wah wahh.)

I haven’t been crafting nearly as much lately as I had the past couple weeks.  I’ve been doing a little bit, but with the baby shower and then trying to organize all of Kevin’s stuff, crafting has taken a backseat.  But I have managed to start one project and finish another.

I’m in the process of working on a crocheted t-shirt rug.  This is more of a sit in front of the TV and work on it occasionally kind of project.  Also, I need more old t-shirts to cut up, preferably ones that go with my color scheme, but I’m not picky!  Here it is so far…

Making good progress, but it takes a lot of shirts to make a legitimate rug.  So, give me a few months to acquire some shirts, make the yarn and crochet my little heart out.

Today, I decided I would take some time to do a project I saw on Pinterest.  It’s a super sweet knotted headband made out of… you guessed it! …t-shirts!  I was fortunate enough to be able to use the sleeve of a long-sleeved shirt that I cut up for the rug!  So green of me!  This is the link from which the idea came.  Here is my finished product…

And an “artsy” close-up of the knot itself…

In the tutorial, she used a sewing machine.  I don’t know if I was using crappy thread or if the jersey material was just too flimsy, but the sewing machine was not having it today, so I ended up sewing it completely by hand, which took a lot longer but was almost therapeutic.  It’s been a long time since I’ve hand sewn anything.

Overall, a successful day.  Got some work done, vacuumed, folded laundry, made a headband, took a 20 minute walk (exhausting!), cleaned the apartment, took a hospital tour, picked up a Freecycle, talked to an old friend AND did a blog post 🙂  Wowie wow!  Maybe I’m subconsciously doing a lot because I know I won’t have time when Kevin gets here?  Who am I kidding.  Whether he’s here or not, I will never be able to sit still.
